The big reason why so many people decide to Jailbreak an iDevice, is because of the simple reason that Apple holds way too much control over your device and what you can do with it. Jailbreaking your device gives you the freedom to use applications on your device in a way Apple does not allow. Jailbreaking removes Apples grip on your device.
Jailbreaking gives you an alternate "App store" called Cydia. Where you can download Apps straight to your device. You can still use the original app store in conjunction with Cydia, nothing about how you originally used your device changes just from Jailbreaking.
Sounds cool! so what can I actually do?
-You can add five or more icons in your homescreen dock.
-Use the Bluetooth function to transfer files, just like most phones can!
-Install themes, customize your iPhone and make its UI completely unique to fit you.
-Show information in your lockscreen such as twitter/facebook updates.
-Carrier unlocking
This is just a tiny selection of what is possible! I will be updating with a full list of recommend themes and applications soon, including themes I've released on Cydia.
(Many other devices can be Jailbroken too, the Windows phone, Android devices can be "rooted", the PS3 can be Jailbroken, which has been publicized in recent months by the Geohot got sued case)
but if you have a problem with the device, you can restore it from itunes, and the apple help you with the problem
ReplyDeletetotally agreed, and to the above poster, you can still restore it? no?
ReplyDelete@Slash971 Yes you can restore a jailbroken iDevice with itunes, just it will need to be re-jailbroken :)
ReplyDeleteThere's also Apps available in Cydia to back up all your Jailbreak tweaks! saving you the time of installing them all again
If I'll ever buy one of those the first thing I'll do it will be for sure jailbreak it.
ReplyDeletebut if u get a problem with say the attery and cant restore, giving it to apple won't help at all..
ReplyDeleteYeah its easy enough jailbreaking
ReplyDeleteI can add five or more icons in your homescreen dock! great news my friend.
ReplyDeletei love your poll haha
ReplyDeleteIf i ever were to buy some iThing, I would definitively jailbreak it.
ReplyDeleteCool poll btw, feel kinda bad for Bulbasaur lol.
Already jailbroke my touch and i love what i can do with it now, simply unbeatable
ReplyDeleteiWhatevers never really interested me unless they were jailbroken
ReplyDeleteI never owned an iphone I do have an ipod touch and it became 10 times better when I jailbroke it. I highly recommend it.
ReplyDeleteJailbroke my iPod Touch a while ago. All I do is play Pokémon Red on it!
ReplyDeleteMy friend had one of those jailbroken. It worked just fine.
ReplyDeletethats why i did it
ReplyDeleteWell, I think unlocking any eletronic device is the best thing to do since you could run homebrews on it.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why companies are against you jailbraiking something you already bought it
ReplyDeleteAmazing blog!
ReplyDeleteThe thing I noticed is that the app store for Cydia is quite expensive. I jailbroke my iPod but really haven't done much with it afterwards >_>
ReplyDeleteYou Must Jailbreak your iphone, it is amazing, you can play pokemon on your ipod with a emulator for example.
ReplyDeleteI would jailbreak anytime
ReplyDeleteI'm jailbreak and i'll always be, if you don't go buy an android phone :\

ReplyDeleteI have an old iPhone i've been thinking about jailbreaking, I feel like i have nothing to lose!
ReplyDeleteCause you want an android....
ReplyDeleteWhat are the negatives though? Does it break warranty?
ReplyDeletei jailbrke for emulators lol
ReplyDeleteif i had one id do it
ReplyDeleteisn't bluetooth useless? i think that option might not be the main reason just my opinion +followed
ReplyDeletei have jailbroken all of my iphones...although i do pay for an app if its worth it
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna jailbreak my iphone once i get one lol
ReplyDeleteHaving an unjailbroken ipod/phone doesn't make much sense in my opinion. Some of the restrictions apple have are so stupid.
ReplyDeleteHow do you jailbreak it?
ReplyDeleteYou jailbreak it by looking at google.com with the word "how to Jailbreak an Iphone"
ReplyDeleteThere's always going to exploits like this and alongside those exploits, risks!
ReplyDeleteWhat can go really bad, is if the device get some kind of problem and then can't be recognize on the computer, and you can't remove the jail break...
ReplyDeleteHey, just to confirm
ReplyDelete-you can always restore a jailbroken iPod/iPhone/iPad via itunes :)
im an android guy myself, but if i ever were to get an iphone.. i would root it in a heartbeat
ReplyDeletei jailbroke my touch as fast as I got home from buying it. xD
ReplyDeleteI own an ipod touch. I regret it now. I bought it for the screen size to watch videos before I had a laptop. I jailbroke it etc. Was good then. Now it is nothing more than an mp3 player to me. I dont use it for anything else anymore. Also iTunes is the worst program I've ever had the displeasure of using.
ReplyDeleteLife is for the bold. Take the risk.
ReplyDeleteI jail broke my Ipon just so I could play pokemon on it lol
ReplyDeleteDude fuck the Geohot case, that's bullshit
ReplyDeleteGeohot case total bullshit. They had it coming.
ReplyDeleteI jailbroke or I guess "homebrewed" my PSP and so glad I did, best portable system ever capable of playing all the oldschool systems.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know I could jailbreak my ipod though, nice information going to follow your blog.
Apple suck.
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree. They're garbage. I'm on a mac right now, and I'm pissed. I'm going to beat my cat as soon as I'm done posting this comment.
ReplyDeleteJK I love cats.
Jailbreaking still amazes me to this day
ReplyDeleteMy Iphone keeps having black screen problems

ReplyDeletedef worth jail braking iphone
ReplyDeletei jailbroke my iphone and itouch. is there anyway to make cydia load faster?
ReplyDeleteWhen I actually have enough money to get an iphone instead of my current absolute crap phone, I plan to jailbreak it. There's too many positives not to
ReplyDeleteinteresting never thought you could do that
ReplyDeleteyeah I heard thats a good thing to do mane
ReplyDeleteI jailbroke my iphone 3g, too. After everythink runs it falls down a bridge -.-*
ReplyDeleteJust buy a droid.
ReplyDeletedroid is the lamest
ReplyDeleteiphones are getting slightly better, but anything Apple is just 'my way or the highway'-itunes, macbook, iphone. Nowadays most ppl who care about computers run windows on their macbooks
ReplyDeletei run win7 on my mac lol
ReplyDeleteI jailbroke my iphone and its great
ReplyDeleteApple does control way to much. They even had that big deal over apple vs adobe. Thank goodness google stepped in and made flash for the android :)
ReplyDelete1) Your poll is so awesome
ReplyDelete2) Is jail breaking really worth it? If something goes wrong internally with the iphone, Apple won't repair it if jailbroken
rooted my droid. not an apple fan.
ReplyDeleteSo many iPhone users are jailbreaking their devices, it seems they should just come pre jail broken.
ReplyDeleteI failed at jailbreaking too many times...
ReplyDeletejailbreaked my cousins iphone two weeks ago. wasn't that hard if you have the right tutorials
ReplyDeleteI have ipod 1gen, can does all aps work with it being jailbroken?

interesting thoughts :)
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested to hear more about jailbreaking an iDevice. Paricularly what you can do if it turns pear shaped
ReplyDeleteJailbreaking is safe, the worst that would happen is you would have to reformat it which is easily done
ReplyDeleteI had a PSP that was jailbroken,it unlocks a lot of new options
ReplyDeleteDo it!
ReplyDeleteI jailbroke my iPhone before the app store was around, and the only way to get apps was with Installer... I feel old now.
ReplyDeleteI never liked apple
ReplyDeleteI'm not cool enough to Jailbreak.
ReplyDeleteIt will make your phone loads better seriously.
ReplyDeletenahh don't do it, stay with Apple. constant updates and all that. best way. and app store. woop.
ReplyDeletewant to jailbreak my iphone now too :)
ReplyDeleteoh god......................
ReplyDeletenever thought about it, good idea
ReplyDeleteI love this, whenever I have owned any apple product I have jail broken it. Yeah it may void the warranty, which is crappy, but theres really a lot more you can do with the device!
ReplyDeleteFriend did this and it is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI first jailbroke my iPhone about a year ago. Never looked back.
ReplyDeleteiPhone jailbreaking is awesome.
ReplyDeleteFriend jailbroke my Ipod nano once, worked for a day then never again :(
ReplyDeletewho doesnt want as many apps as possible?
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid that if I jail break it, I'll just break it.
ReplyDeleteJailbreaking and homebrew are one of the greatest places where webOS shines in my opinion. HP/Palm has left the code open, so all you have to do is type "webos20090606" in the device, and you can install whatever you want on the device. As HP put it, they "leave the tools in the garage" for people who want to get the most they can out of their phones.
ReplyDeleteAll the platform needs is a killer device, and I'm sure it'll take off like iOS and Android has.
i just rooted my droid 1, not only does it not feel prehistoric anymore but i also feel like a champion :)
ReplyDeletedefinitely worth it to jailbreak it
ReplyDeleteall the apps free, simple as... :)
