Why Jailbreak my iPhone, iPad or iPod touch?

The big reason why so many people decide to Jailbreak an iDevice, is because of the simple reason that Apple holds way too much control over your device and what you can do with it. Jailbreaking your device gives you the freedom to use applications on your device in a way Apple does not allow. Jailbreaking removes Apples grip on your device.

Jailbreaking gives you an alternate "App store" called Cydia. Where you can download Apps straight to your device. You can still use the original app store in conjunction with Cydia, nothing about how you originally used your device changes just from Jailbreaking.

Sounds cool! so what can I actually do?
-You can add five or more icons in your homescreen dock.
-Use the Bluetooth function to transfer files, just like most phones can!
-Install themes, customize your iPhone and make its UI completely unique to fit you.
-Show information in your lockscreen such as twitter/facebook updates.
-Carrier unlocking

This is just a tiny selection of what is possible! I will be updating with a full list of recommend themes and applications soon, including themes I've released on Cydia.

(Many other devices can be Jailbroken too, the Windows phone, Android devices can be "rooted", the PS3 can be Jailbroken, which has been publicized in recent months by the Geohot got sued case)

  1. but if you have a problem with the device, you can restore it from itunes, and the apple help you with the problem

  2. totally agreed, and to the above poster, you can still restore it? no?

  3. @Slash971 Yes you can restore a jailbroken iDevice with itunes, just it will need to be re-jailbroken :)

There's also Apps available in Cydia to back up all your Jailbreak tweaks! saving you the time of installing them all again

  38. I own an ipod touch. I regret it now. I bought it for the screen size to watch videos before I had a laptop. I jailbroke it etc. Was good then. Now it is nothing more than an mp3 player to me. I dont use it for anything else anymore. Also iTunes is the worst program I've ever had the displeasure of using.

  96. Jailbreaking and homebrew are one of the greatest places where webOS shines in my opinion. HP/Palm has left the code open, so all you have to do is type "webos20090606" in the device, and you can install whatever you want on the device. As HP put it, they "leave the tools in the garage" for people who want to get the most they can out of their phones.

All the platform needs is a killer device, and I'm sure it'll take off like iOS and Android has.

    ReplyDelete
